Advisory Board

Introduction

The Criminal Justice and Criminology Advisory Board (“Board”) was founded in 2010 to provide guidance to the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology’s leadership on professional best practices with the aim of ensuring that curricula and programs are effectively preparing students for professional success. Advisory Board membership consists of distinguished community, educational, and professional leaders from across the justice-related field. They serve as advocates for ECU Criminal Justice and Criminology programs while supporting departmental initiatives such as student scholarships and learning activities. This important collaboration enhances departmental planning and programming by sustaining professional relevance and the tradition of academic excellence in educating the next generation of criminal justice leaders at East Carolina University.

Special Programs

Board members actively participate in several initiatives to help Criminal Justice and Criminology students attain their goal of graduating from the department’s undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs. These include donor support of the department’s “Criminal Justice Scholarship” pool fund, annual student scholarship fund raising campaigns, serving as mentors in the criminal justice student career development program, guest speakers for departmental events/symposia and agency facilitators as student internship sponsors; just to name a few. Through these activities, board members directly contribute to departmental and student success and establish a pathway for student transition from the classroom to the profession.
