Distinguished Alumni Award

Description

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given jointly by the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminal Justice Advisory Board at East Carolina University to a meritorious alumnus or alumna who received a degree in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University. The annual award recipient will be recognized at the Fall Criminal Justice Advisory Board meeting presided over by the Chair of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board or designee.


Eligibility

An award recipient may be nominated by East Carolina University alumni, faculty, staff, Criminal Justice Advisory Board member, or the public. To be eligible the nominee must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Criminal Justice degree conferred by East Carolina University.
  • Be an East Carolina University undergraduate or graduate alumnus or alumna for at least five years.
  • Be in good standing in accordance with professional ethical standards and federal, state, and local laws.
  • Have attained distinction in his/her career field and demonstrated exceptional leadership in the profession and community.

Nomination Process

Criminal Justice Alumni should be nominated as follows:

  • Complete a Nomination Form (PDF)
  • Attach a two-page (maximum) typewritten narrative summary of the nominee’s professional and/or civic achievements.
    • Contents should include:
      1. outstanding contributions to his/her profession;
      2. outstanding contributions to the welfare of the community, state, or nation;
      3. outstanding achievements in service; and
      4. honors, awards, and recognitions.
    • Supporting documentation (recommended) may include
      1. resume or curriculum vita;
      2. published works; or
      3. other items deemed appropriate.
    • Send two letters of recommendation.
    • Submit all documents to the departmental Distinguished Alumni Award Committee.
