Sheriff Paula Dance
Paula Dance was elected the first female African American sheriff in Pitt County on December 3, 2018. She ran her campaign based upon her qualifications from working in law enforcement for the past 28 years. Her law enforcement experience began in Martin County transitioned to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office in 1994, reaching the rank of Major in 2013. As Sheriff, Dance wants to implement body cameras for the sheriff’s office, tackle the opioid epidemic with rehab programs, and focus on school safety.
