Mrs. Susan McIntyre

Ms. McIntyre graduated from ECU in 1978 with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Drama and Speech.  While at ECU she actively participated in the North Carolina Student Legislature, Pi Sigma Alpha honors fraternity, the Student Union Theatre Arts Committee, and the ECU Playhouse.  She was the first student from ECU to be awarded a North Carolina Legislative Internship, a competitive statewide program with a residency at NC State University, and worked with the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Hon. Edward Holmes.  She later served as a United States Senate intern for the Hon. Robert Morgan D-NC, a position established for ECU students by the senator who was himself an ECU alumnus.

After graduation from ECU, Ms. McIntyre attended Campbell University School of Law and obtained her Juris Doctorate in 1984.  During her law school career, she was selected to serve on the Campbell Law Review, the Campbell Law Observer, and the National Trial Team. She also worked as a teaching assistant to Dean Margaret P. Currin.  Ms. McIntyre was awarded the Order of the Barrister and membership in Omicron Delta Kappa.  She is also a member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.  Ms. McIntyre proudly claims charter membership in  the Campbell University School of Law’s Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club, “It’s me, it’s me, it’s Ernest T.” chapter.

After graduation from law school Ms. McIntyre passed the NC Bar Exam and has been a licensed attorney since 1984.  She practiced both civil and criminal law with the law firm of Stith and Stith, PA in New Bern, NC until 1997 when she was hired as the Curriculum Area Coordinator of the Paralegal Technology program at Carteret Community College.  This program is one of only seven programs in the state to receive and retain the approval of the American Bar Association, considered the national “gold standard” of Paralegal education.  Ms. McIntyre served on the inaugural NC State Bar Paralegal Certification Committee which was responsible for writing the first North Carolina Certified Paralegal Examination administered by the NC State Bar.

Since beginning her second career at Carteret Community College Ms. McIntyre has served as Division Director and then Dean of Applied Sciences (1999-2016) with a brief appointment as Interim Vice President of Instruction and Student Support.
