Mr. Art Beeler (’75)

Arthur (Art) F. Beeler, Jr. is an East Carolina University alumnus (’75) and recipient of the ECU Alumni Association’s 2017 Outstanding Alumni Award. After graduating from ECU, Mr. Beeler began a distinguished 40 year career as a correctional professional culminating with his appointment as Warden of the Federal Butner Correctional Complex. He has received several prestigious professional and civic awards and remains a nationally recognized expert and consultant in the field of corrections. Upon his retirement from Butner, Mr. Beeler joined academia and teaches criminal justice courses in several North Carolina universities. His extensive public service record includes membership on the ECU Department of Criminal Justice Advisory Board, and as an inmate research specialist, with the ECU University & Medical Center Institutional Review Board. Together, Mr. Beeler has made significant contributions to the criminal justice profession through his extensive service as a correctional leader, educator, and community volunteer.
